Entering the industry in 1999 as a fresh graduate, Ross rose quickly through the ranks of the recruitment world. Within two years he had gone from trainee to consultant, senior consultant, manager and, finally, head of department.

As 2002 began, Ross formed Talisman Technology, a boutique recruitment agency trading specifically within the software and electronic engineering sector. Talisman rapidly became a £multi-million business counting Philips, Samsung, Sony, British American Racing, McLaren and Experian amongst its many clients.

In 2008, Ross sold the company to IoD Director of the Year Chris Bartlett, who integrated the business into his primary recruitment company to kick-start a now-thriving engineering division.

Business Advice

Post-studies, and originally intended as a two-to-three year money earner, Ross began a career in recruitment. It went better than expected and Ross became his company’s top salesman within 18 months, a run that ended when Ross was diagnosed with life threatening ulcerative colitis and needed surgery to remove his entire large intestine.

Later that year, when ready to return to work, Ross started his own recruitment business, Talisman Technology. Specialising in software and electronic engineering, Talisman rapidly grew to become a £5m+ turnover business, counting Philips, Samsung, Sony, British American Racing, McClaren and Experian amongst its clients. In 2008, Ross sold the company to a larger company who have since used Talisman’s legacy to kick-start a thriving engineering division.

Since selling his company, Ross has kept one foot in the business world, freelancing as a business consultant and recruitment trainer, helping numerous companies across the UK and beyond to strengthen their performance and increase their revenue. Currently, he is the Head of Recruitment Guide Online, personally endorsed by company founder James Caan CBE.
